Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — A woman who had part of her nose bitten off by her husband following a fight between them a few days ago was not allowed by her in-laws to pick up her three children and take them home with her, Al-Hayat daily reported. The man's relatives requested the mother obtain an official letter from concerned authorities as a condition to hand over the children. They said they wanted a letter that absolved them of any responsibility for their grandchildren. The husband was jailed after the incident, which ended in the woman being admitted to hospital in a serious condition because she lost a lot of blood. During the altercation, she reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed her attacker in the shoulder. On Tuesday she had to appear at the Makkah Emir's office to explain to officials why she had to stab her husband, who is still being questioned by the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution. She submitted documentation to the office to prove that this was not the first time her husband beat her. She told Al-Hayat: “This is the third time he has hit me so hard and all I want now is my kids.” Her husband's brother said his sister-in-law could only take her children if ordered by the court. “We know she is the only one who can take care of her own kids but handing them to her should be done legally. “We know she is very upset right now and we understand it. We want her to realize that we'll stand by her if the court sends my brother to prison. “Justice will prevail at the end of the day.”
