A man in Hafr Al-Batin has been sentenced to ten years in prison and 3,000 lashes for severing his sister's hand with a knife and repeatedly stabbing her husband. Police said they were called to an apartment in the city by neighbors who heard screams and officers arrived to find the woman with a severed hand bleeding profusely. Her husband had sustained multiple stab wounds, and both were taken to hospital, where they later recovered. The woman's hand was reattached during surgery lasting six hours. The prosecution had called for a “harsh sentence” in view of “the horrific and unusual nature of the crime”, which was attributed to family differences.
