Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — The Jeddah Chapter of Muslim Art (Mappila Kala) Academy recently conducted a Mappila song festival and competition. Several talented singers in the city enthralled the audience with their impressive performance. Shifa Jeddah Polyclinic General Manager Abdurahman Areekat inaugurated the festival. Academy President Sayyid Mashhud Thangal presided over the function in which Dr. Muhammad Kavungal, chief patron of the academy, delivered the keynote speech. Hakeem Abdullah Bappu, Advt. K.H.A Muneer, and Sameer Koyakkutty spoke on the occasion. Basheer Thottiyan welcomed the gathering and Faisal Kottappuram gave the vote of thanks. Six teams have been qualified for the grand finale of the song competition. Noted researcher and critic of Mappila song Umer Anchachavidi was the choreographer while Mashhud Thangal and Jamal Pasha were the anchors of the event. Singers Usman Pandikkad and Usman Edathil comprised the jury panel.
