DOHA — Science and technology “edutainment” reality TV program “Stars of Science” on MBC4, has named the six candidates selected to showcase their innovations in the design phase of the competition. The program was initiated by the Qatar Foundation. In last week's engineering program, 10 candidates demonstrated the functionality of their product and six were selected to go through to the design phase. At this stage the six candidates will be assessed on the integration of their product's function, interface and aesthetics, design enhancement for commercial potential, resourcefulness and attitude. Battling for a place in the final are Anwar Almojarkesh from Syria, whose innovation Assistive Pillow for Hearing Imparied wowed the jurors with its clever smart phone programming; Tunisian Mohamed Amine Besbes, who has developed a Virtual 3D Drawing Pen made up of a unique, intelligent software; Mohammed Doumir from Algeria who has designed Camel Racing Diagnostic Boots; Mohammed Al Kuwairi from Qatar who has created an Automated Verdict in Disputed Football Scoring; Sherif Yahia from Egypt with the speech synthesizer for the language impaired that facilitates communication for the those who have impaired hearing, and Waleed Jan from KSA whose innovation, the Mechanical Braille Editor, facilitates the editing process for blind people. The design-phase selection will be assessed by Stars of Science's prestigious design experts, who have been on the judging panel for three consecutive seasons — James Law, Chairman and Chief Cybertect at James Law Cybertecture International, and Allyson Vanstone, Dean of Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts in Qatar.
