DAMMAM — Five members of the Commission to Promote Virtue and Prevent Vice were charged with the second-degree murder of two brothers who died on Saudi National Day during a car chase in Riyadh allegedly involving the Haia members, a local daily reported Tuesday. Dammam-based Alsharq newspaper reported that an investigating committee comprising representatives from the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP) and the Riyadh Governorate formally brought the charges against the defendants. The committee had reportedly cleared a sixth member of the Haia of any wrongdoing. According to legal sources, the BIP will refer the case to the general court in Riyadh today. Al-Wihaibi Law Office will represent the victims while seven other lawyers headed by Mohammed Al-Zamil will defend the accused. According to eyewitnesses, the Haia members' car hit the two brothers' car from the back causing it to fall off a bridge. They said when the Haia members saw the brothers' car going down the bridge they fled, but a young man who was at the scene chased them and noted down their number plate.
