With regard to the article "The reasons for crime in Saudi Arabia" (Oct. 9) by Dr. Ali Al-Ghamdi, it seems that the only crime that people write about in the Kingdom is the running away of expatriates. But what about the crimes committed against expats, such as the ill treatment of housemaids, discrimination, and instances of local children verbally and physically abusing Asian expats some of whom are old enough to be their grandfathers? Then there is also the poor accommodation that expats are often forced to live in, the unlawful reduction of their salaries, and if they live in certain neighborhoods being warned that they should not loiter outside or even open their windows. These are but a few of the crimes committed against expats in the Kingdom. Aqil, Online response II. I fully agree with what Dr. Al-Ghamdi has written. If the majority of us regardless of our race, color and belief, behave properly and treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves, there would be less crime and harmony would abound.
