RIYADH – The Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Industry has confiscated more than 20,000 imitation items at Riyadh shops, SPA reported Sunday. The items included wires, plugs, electrical chargers that are not according to the specifications of Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). The Ministry has also shutdown two violating shops, and other shops are under investigation. The inspection rounds also monitored some other violations, such as workers in shops holding the shops official stamps, and blank signed checks. They were referred to the concerned bodies for further processing. The Ministry is cooperating with the Saudi Customs and SASO to monitor such imitation products, and penalize their dealers. The Ministry said that it will not be lenient with any shop that promotes such imitation products, and penalty be imposed according to the rules and regulations. The Ministry is conducting continuous field inspection rounds to monitor imitation electrical items and equipment that are hazardous to consumers. — SG
