Saudi Gazette report MAHAYIL ASIR — Heavy rain with thunderstorm lashed parts of the southern Asir province and neighboring Baha on Friday, causing power disruptions, road shutdowns, heavy damage to public property and at least one death. Many people were reportedly trapped in their vehicles. A stone wall collapsed in Majardah, killing a Saudi woman and injuring her husband. Security bodies were put on high alert in several parts of the province. Civil Defense personnel rescued four people who were trapped inside their vehicle in flood waters. Some major roads collapsed and others were shut down by falling rocks. Two youths rescued three men who were in danger of drowning. A lightning strike killed at least 20 sheep in Mahayil Asir while the shepherd escaped unharmed. There were also many reports of power disruptions and vehicle breakdowns in the region. The head of Baha Civil Defense, Brig. Ali Al-Sowat, said all concerned bodies were notified of the situation. Announcements warning the public against possible dangers were broadcast in the media.
