Saeed Al-Khotani Saudi Gazette RIYADH — Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto will visit the Kingdom next year, according to the country's ambassador in Riyadh. “This landmark visit will focus on developing economic ties as our president is very keen on developing such ties with the Gulf countries, the Kingdom in particular,” Arturo Trejo said, adding that the presidential visit will be preceded by a preparatory visit by Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade. Trejo was speaking to a large audience that came to celebrate Mexico's National Day at Tuwaiq Palace in the Diplomatic Quarter on Wednesday night. Deputy Emir of Riyadh Prince Turki Bin Abdullah was the chief guest at the event, which was attended by senior Saudi officials, businessmen, foreign diplomats and members of the Mexican community as well as the media. Trejo expressed his pleasure at the presence of Prince Turki, saying his participation reflected the excellent relations between his country and the Kingdom. Responding to a question from Saudi Gazette, Trejo said: “We have excellent political relations that date back to more than 60 years. We would also like to improve our economic relations.” Trejo said more and more Saudi tourists are heading to Mexico and his embassy is easing the procedures for Saudis to get six-month visas within one or two days of presenting the applications while businessmen can obtain visas valid for 10 years. At the same time, Saudis holding USA B visa can enter Mexico without a Mexican visa. Saudi and Mexican national anthems were played at the start of the National Day celebrations, which also featured a famous Mexican singer. Later the guests attended a dinner with a predominantly Mexican menu.
