Alabama beats Colorado State; Ohio State downs A&M
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 23 - 09 - 2013

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — AJ McCarron passed for 258 yards and threw a 30-yard touchdown to DeAndrew White in the fourth quarter to lift No. 1 University of Alabama to a 31-6 victory over Colorado State Saturday.
No. 4 Ohio State trounced Florida A&M 76-0 for its most lopsided win since 1935, while NO. 5 Stanford defeated No. 23 Arizona State 42-28.
Kenyan Drake set up one touchdown for Alabama with a blocked punt returned 15 yards by Dillon Lee and scored on a 3-yard touchdown run for the Crimson Tide (3-0), who led 17-6 heading to the fourth.
Alabama managed only one offensive touchdown and no third-down conversions in the first three quarters a week after winning a 49-42 shootout over Texas A&M.
Kenny Guiton again starred in place of Braxton Miller for Ohio State, setting a school record with six touchdown passes — all in the first.
Ohio State (4-0) needed a total of four offensive plays and 46 seconds to go up 21-0 in the opening 6 minutes and never looked back. It was an epic mismatch between a team with national-title aspirations and a Football Championship Subdivision member getting a $900,000 guarantee.
FAMU (1-3), which suffered its worst loss ever, trailed 48-0 before picking up its initial first down in the second quarter.
Stanford running back Tyler Gaffney ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns, and Anthony Wilkerson added 68 yards and another score for a victory over Arizona State in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
Teddy Bridgewater threw four touchdown passes in Louisville's 72-0 victory over Florida International, while Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston completed 10 of 19 passes in a 54-6 win over Bethune-Cookman.
In other games, No. 6 Louisiana State University beat Auburn 35-21, No. 9 Georgia downed North Texas 45-21, No. 10 Texas A&M beat SMU 42-13, No. 13 UCLA were 59-13 winners over New Mexico State, No. 15 Michigan edged past Connecticut 24-21, No. 16 Miami thrashed Savannah State 77-7, No. 17 Washington beat Idaho State 56-0 and No. 18 Northwestern finished a 35-21 winner over Maine.
No. 19 Florida opened Southeastern Conference play with a 31-17 victory over Tennessee, and Bryce Petty threw for 351 yards with four touchdowns and ran 2 yards for another score in No. 20 Baylor's 70-7 win over Louisiana Monroe.
Also, No. 22 Notre Dame edged Michigan State 17-13, No. 24 Wisconsin downed Purdue 41-10 and No. 25 Texas Tech defeated Texas State 33-7. — AP
