EY completes 90 years in MENA region
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 23 - 09 - 2013

EY has completed 90 years in the Middle East and North Africa, reaffirming its position as the largest and most established professional services organization in the region. This milestone was commemorated at EY's Annual Partners meeting in Dubai, which was attended by 130 partners from across the region and global network.
Abdulaziz Al Sowailim, Chairman and CEO, EY MENA, said: “Our first MENA office opened in 1923. Since then, we have grown to more than 5,000 employees across the region. As an organization, we continue to develop outstanding leaders who deliver exceptional services to our clients and who contribute to our communities. We are very proud of all our accomplishments and of being part of the business community over the past 90 years.”
Mark added: “From 1 July our brand name has changed to EY. Shortening our brand name will provide consistency and ease of use for EY practices and clients around the world. We have also redesigned our logo, reflecting our new brand name clearly in the design. Our new brand name and logo demonstrate clearly and boldly who we are and reflects the traits we need to have the best brand in our profession.”
EY recently announced that Mark Weinberger has become Global Chairman and CEO.
Mark said: “It is a privilege to lead this great organization in these dynamic times and I'm looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead. EY has a proud history that stretches back more than a century. Over that time we have forged our reputation based on quality, trust and integrity. We are building on our history and our reputation to create our future.”
Building a better working world will serve as both EY's purpose and its tagline, becoming central to its brand.
“Every day, every EY person is part of building a better working world – for our clients, our communities, and our families. We believe that everything we do – every audit, every tax return, every advisory opportunity, every interaction with a client or colleague – contributes to building a better working world. We know that building a better working world is an ambitious objective but it is an incredibly important aspiration and will be front and center of everything we do as an organization,” he further said.
Abdulaziz added: “This is a continuation to our legacy in the region. A better working world must foster sustainable growth, increased productivity, innovation and a broader talent pool. We strive every day to create a better working world in areas that best match our business, our knowledge and our skills. In doing so, we play a critical role in building a better working world for our people, our clients and our communities.”
Bassam Hage, Markets Leader, EY MENA, said: “For the region to energize its innovation climate, which is critical to sustaining its growth, countries should emphasize lowering the barriers and costs of innovation. As this improves, countries in the region will find it easier to pursue economic diversification. We want to fuel the discussion around the challenges the working world faces, and collaborate to be part of the solutions. The pursuit of this is our way of working towards building a better working world.” — SG
