RIYADH — The Cup for Champion Clubs competition will now be called the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup. The change was among the many announced by Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) Ahmad Eid Al-Harbi here Wednesday. All the 153 clubs in the Kingdom will now be able to take part in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup. Prizes worth SR13 million – SR9 million for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup and SR4 million for the Crown Prince Cup — will be given to the winners. Two teams from the second- and third-class clubs will qualify for the round-of-16 matches. The 32 teams will play knockout games, except for the semifinals, which will be played over two legs. A few changes have also been made to the Crown Prince Cup. It will now include all professional and first-class clubs. In other changes, only professional and first-class clubs will now be able to take part in the Crown Prince Cup. The champion and the runner-up of the competition will automatically qualify for the round-of-16. The event will be played on a knockout basis. The date for the draw will be announced later. — SG/SPA
