The article “Let women speak!” (Sep. 17) describes a deep-rooted problem that goes way back to the dark ages of tribal traditions. Believe it or not, it is not only women who are in a cage; men are also in a similar cage. Some men who seem to be advocates of women's rights suddenly become apprehensive when the issue comes up. They become apprehensive because they fear that they may be considered "liberals". So, it took the writer's pigeons one night to fly out of the open door of their cage, but it will take men and women pigeons many years to do so! T. Tawfiq, Online response II.
It is sad that all of this is done in the name of Islam, which makes the whole world look down upon us as a nation, because we enforce ridiculous and meaningless rules and regulations which have absolutely no standing whatsoever in Islam. And all this is done in the birthplace of the world's greatest religion. Muhammed, Online response
