With reference to "New expenses unaffordable, say private school owners" (Sep. 14), the private school owner cited in the article does not appear to understand the basic principles of managing a business. As a private business, her income needs to exceed her expenses by a degree sufficient to provide her with a living. The expenses include all costs associated with employment of staff in accordance with the labor law, including paid holiday. Her income is essentially derived from the school fees paid by the parents of students and government subsidies. The variable is school fees and in order to manage her business successfully, the private school owner must raise the fees. Simon, Online response
