JAZAN/NAJRAN — Power supply was disrupted in many parts of Jazan after high voltage electricity poles malfunctioned in following heavy rains and thunderstorms in the region. Sources in Saudi Electricity Company in Jazan said the disruption was caused by a technical problem in the main cable feeding stations in Jazan and Najran. Power outage forced an early closure of several shops and markets wore a deserted look. It also resulted in many traffic accidents. A complete blackout engulfed Najran lasting more than a couple of hours. A Najran SEC official was unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the power outage. Electricity supply was gradually restored utilizing backup generators in Asir. Meanwhile, security bodies have intensified their patrols on the streets and around banks and gold markets. Most residents chose to remain at home while a few ventured out and spent time in public parks to beat the heat. Utilizing their backup generators, hospitals continued to function normally.
