With reference to the report "Housekeeper survives suicide attempt after abuse by employer" (Sep. 6), if this is not slavery, then what is it? A Filipino housemaid jumped off the second floor of her building because her employer had not paid her for over two and a half years and would not allow her to leave the house. The problem is that every family wants a housemaid whether they can afford it or not. We are confident that the offending employer will be punished severely for this heartless and wicked crime which is unimaginable in the 21st century. The culprit should be apprehended without delay. The housemaid's consulate should pursue the case vigorously to avoid a recurrence of the incident. Dimagh, Online response II. As always, there will just be a slap on the wrist for this crime. Salman, Online response
