Police here have detained an Asian housemaid who has confessed to killing her 64-year-old woman employer with a knife and cleaver because of alleged “bad treatment” by the woman. The housemaid told police she hit the old woman while she was praying in her wheelchair at noon, at her house in Al-Khaldiya District on Tuesday. The housemaid fled the scene after committing the crime but was apprehended shortly afterwards by a policeman who was passing by in the street. The housemaid had tried to hitchhike without an abaya and had traces of blood on her clothes. The policeman took her to the police station where she confessed during interrogation. A police spokesman said the killer said that she committed the crime out of revenge for alleged “bad treatment” meted out by her employer. She said she tried to leave the house many times but her employer “kept locking the door.” Before she died, the elderly woman tried to call her divorced daughter. Her daughter was at work and did not answer her phone. She called her driver, who then called the daughter and told her about the attack. The daughter found her mother dead when she arrived home.
