JEDDAH — The Western Province Cricket Association held its 2013-2014 draws here recently. A record 50 clubs confirmed their participation in the upcoming season under different championships, held under different sponsors. While one club, Deccan Knights, entered the Premier League (the top level), four others will be playing in the Afternoon and Morning tournaments. The meeting began with the recitation from Holy Qur'an by Abdul Rehman of PISJ-ES. Present on the occasion were Zulfikar Chaudhry, CEO of WPCA; Khurshid Zafar, Vice president and Coordinator besides distinguished guests and committee members. The clubs in the Premier League for the Phase I T20 Tournament are: Dopco Stars, Al-Saudi-XI, Usman Gems, Crown Steel, Deccan Knights, IDB, APF, My Care Hala and AOT. The matches in all the three levels will start Friday (Aug. 23) at WPCA Eskan Grounds. In the Premier League, the teams will play each other in a round-robin league basis with the four top teams making the semifinals, which will be followed by final. The Afternoon Level I has 21 clubs, divided into three groups — A, B and C. Group A: Lothers CC, Dopco Young Stars, Hala Academy Blue, UCC, Elaf Advance, AOT Youngsters and Limitless. Group B: Zultrack, Marine Services, Contraco, Al-Safri-XI, Master CC, Nestle Milo and ARAB Lankans. Group C: Natcom, AMI Juffali, Fuchs Alhamrani, Pak Makkah-XI, Jotun Paints and Hala International School. The Morning Level II T20 Tournament also has 21 clubs, divided into three Groups of 7 each. Group A: Kabbani CC, Myaco, Haneefa Tigers, Hala Academy White, ALJ Toyota, Jeddah Challengers and ATS. Group B: Jeddah Royals, MQ Group, Stallions, Rapidtech, SFCC, Crown Blue and Mercedes Benz, whereas Group C: Otex, Al-Mazroi-Xi, Johnson Control, Attieh Steel, Nesma Holding, New Young Stars and QRCC. The Morning and Afternoon divisions will also be played on the round-robin basis, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Six, which will be divided into 2 groups of three teams each. Two teams from each group will eventually reach the semifinals in the T20 Tournament. The Western Province Cricket Association tournaments are being sponsored by Hyundai Naghi.
