BERLIN — Third-division Saarbruecken defeated Werder Bremen 3-1 after extra time Sunday to send the Bundesliga side out of the German Cup in the first round for the third year in a row. Borussia Moenchengladbach also crashed out, losing 5-4 to third-division Darmstadt on penalties after Branimir Hrgota missed the decisive spot kick. The match was scoreless after extra time. In Saarbruecken, Nils Fischer struck just before halftime for the home side before Sebastian Proedl equalized in the 59th minute. Tim Stegerer then scored with a deflected shot at the end of the first period of extra time, and Saarbruecken striker Marcel Ziemer sealed the win on a counterattack in the 112th. Hannover defeated fourth-tier Victoria Hamburg 2-0. Third-division Arminia Bielefeld beat promoted Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig 2-1, and Greuther Fuerth won 2-0 at fifth-tier side Pfeddersheim. Ajax, PSV win Defending champion Ajax beat Roda JC Kerkrade 3-0 in Amsterdam in the first round of the Dutch league, with goals from Ricardo van Rhijn, Viktor Fischer and Siem de Jong. Ajax has substantially the same squad as last season and is favored to retain its title under coach Frank de Boer. PSV Eindhoven, last season's runner-up, won at ADO Den Haag 3-2 in a match where ADO captain Danny Holla scored for both sides. Feyenoord got off to a poor start Sunday, losing 2-1 at PEC Zwolle.
