Saudi Gazette report DAMMAM — The total number of harassment cases against women and juveniles in the Kingdom reached 2,797 in one year, an Arabic newspaper reported Saturday quoting official statistics. Saudis were on top of the list with 1,669 cases, or 59.9 percent, while there were 1,128 harassment cases involving non-Saudis of various nationalities. Riyadh topped the list of cases with 650 cases, followed by Jeddah with 250 cases. The Eastern Province ranked third with 210 cases, Makkah ranked fourth with 180 cares, Madinah fifth with 170 cases, Asharq newspaper reported. The same source stated that Yemeni nationals were among the top expatriates in luring juveniles and harassing women. Saudi courts reviewed 100 cases of harassment against women and 40 cases of luring juveniles in which Yemenis were involved. Egyptians came second with 50 cases of harassment against women and 10 cases of luring juveniles. Pakistani nationals were third with 25 cases of harassment against women and 23 cases of luring juveniles. Bangladeshis were fourth with 39 cases while Syrians were fifth with 37 cases of harassment. The rest of the cases were divided between other Arab and non-Arab nationalities. Saudi lawyer Abdul Aziz Al-Zamil said luring juveniles take many forms. Sometimes criminals lure juveniles to involve them in terror activities in the name of religion. The same goes for luring girls for prostitution. It is considered a criminal offense and it is punishable by law.
