Police here have intensified their crackdown on crime and illegal aliens with a security campaign on Saturday morning over several districts in the city. The operations resulted in the arrest of 53 suspects involved in criminal cases including dealing in liquor, moral cases, theft, and the impersonation of police officers. A further 1,153 persons were arrested for violating residency laws, including women and juveniles. In other operations a number of prostitution houses, a liquor distillery and qat dealing house were raided, as part of the search of a total of 380 houses. Checkpoints had been set on the entry and exit points to the northern and southern districts including Safa, Bawadi, Carantina, Nuzla, Gulail and other areas east of the highway.
