JOHANNESBURG, Gauteng — South African Olympic silver medalist Caster Semenya missed a place at the 2013 world championships by 0.36 seconds in Belgium Saturday. The 800-meter runner, who collected gold and silver at the last two world events, won her Flanders Cup race by clocking 2:01:86 in Ninove. But the 22-year-old needed 2:00.00 or better to match the A-standard time and at least 2:01.50 to squeeze into the team via a B-standard time. It was the second, belated attempt by Semenya to force her way into the South Africa squad for the August 10-18 championships in Moscow. She won a July 18 race at the Finnish Lathi Games by clocking 2:06.58. — AP
