JOHANNESBURG — The suspended president of Athletics South Africa says Caster Semenya is recovering from a knee injury and will be ready for the world championships. James Evans also criticized the national Olympic committee for “inexplicably” leaving her off a list of athletes to be given funding. Evans said Tuesday that the Olympic 800-meter silver medalist and former world champion “is confident of being in shape to perform at her best” at the worlds in Moscow in August. The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee said last month that Semenya was not in its high-performance group because she was not training or competing. — AP
