QATAR Primary Materials Company (QPMC) has undergone a major digital overhaul of key business systems in a bid to achieve faster, more efficient growth. The news is set to be welcomed across Qatar, which is in the midst of an unprecedented building boom. Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and in line with the country's 2030 Vision, infrastructure spend is estimated to reach $150 billion up until 2017. To help meet intense demand for world-class primary materials and logistics & supply chain, Port Management, QPMC has enlisted SAP to devise the most advanced set of business solutions Middle East and Africa (MENA) has ever seen. In particular, SAP's input will significantly automate and improve the efficiency of the company's operational backbone. The project entails running a highly customized port operation management system, which is directly linked to SAP's material management solution. In addition, SAP will provide solutions for Sahara washed sand plant maintenance, production planning, finance and controlling, human capital management, quality management, project systems and funds management. “Qatar's landscape is changing in a profound way, and QPMC is honored to be at the center of it all,” said Khalid Al Rabban, QPMC Chairman. “But with such involvement comes great responsibility. The immense, game-changing nature of our infrastructure and construction ambitions cannot be fully realized if we are not able to optimize our operations in every conceivable sense. SAP will be enormously important in this respect, making use more agile, transparent and, ultimately, more effective.” — SG
