MAKKAH – Five various Civil Defense units managed to control a fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon in a room on the fourth floor of a hotel in Makkah's Al-Misfalah district. One hundred and eighty five Umrah pilgrims were evacuated from the hotel as a precautionary measure by the Civil Defense. The pilgrims were returned to the hotel after the fire was extinguished. Director of Civil Defense in Makkah Brig. Gen. Khalaf Al-Matrafi oversaw the operation. Civil Defense spokesman Maj. Saleh Abdullah Al-Olayyani said none of the pilgrims were injured. Investigations are still under way to determine the cause of the fire and to assess the damage.
