I found the article “Explore the gems of Bollywood on Zee Aflam” (July 2), which talks about the broadcast of special movies during the holy month, baffling and incomprehensible. Ramadan is the most blessed and holy month for all Muslims, when one must refrain from sin and evil. In this month a Muslim must devote most of his time to the Almighty. As such, the promotion during Ramadan of evergreen and super hit Bollywood movies does not make any sense in either social or religious terms. The broadcast of selected movies from 7:00 p.m. stops one from offering Taraweeh prayers and the broadcast of such programs at 1:00 a.m. prevents one from praying Laylat-ul-Qadr and throughout the night (Qayam-ul-Layl) prayers. With such a schedule one cannot devote his time to his religion. Movies are aired throughout the year but their promotion, especially in the blessed and holy month of Ramadan, is a slap in the face of the Muslim community. This decision of the concerned authorities to promote Bollywood films in the blessed month will kill the religious spirit and it will torment the soul. Since the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the cradle of Islam and the most blessed kingdom on this planet and as it is place of birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and a place that houses Islam's Two Holy Mosques, it should not select such a blessed month for airing these movies. I hope the authorities will reverse their decision and reschedule these films to another more appropriate time. Imbesat Syed, Jeddah
