Rama, victim of a medical error, plays with her pet parrot at the family home of her father Abdullah Al-Mohaimed in Riyadh after having been discharged from King Faisal Specialist Hospital on Wednesday. Her parents brought the parrot from their home in Buraidah as part of a string of steps to mitigate the physical and psychological impact of chemotherapy that she underwent following a faulty diagnosis of cancer. — Okaz photo Abdullah Al-Yousef Okaz/Saudi Gazette BURAIDAH — Rama who was mistakenly subjected to chemotherapy because of a medical error has left King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, relatives said. The five-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital five days ago and underwent complete examinations to ensure that she would not suffer from serious side effects due to the chemotherapy treatment she received. Rama's recovery and release from hospital relieved her father, who said he hoped that she would overcome possible long-term complications. Abdullah Al-Mohaimed is now waiting for a consultation in two weeks time with a specialist in the hospital to explain to him any side affects that may result from the unnecessary chemotherapy. He welcomed the Health Affairs Directorate decision to refer the case to the Shariah medical committee, but said he will take other legal actions. Okaz/Saudi Gazette received a copy of a statement issued by the Qassim Health Affairs, pointing out that the mistake was due to a mix-up of patients' names. The Health Affairs regretted the mistake and assured the patient's family that it will constantly follow up her health condition.
