Syeda Amtul Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Some 70 children of prisoners, who have excelled in their studies and achieved outstanding results in their annual exams, were honored here Monday evening at a function organized by Saudi Aramco. The event, held in Jeddah for the first time, allowed kids and their families to spend a day full of fun and interesting activities including games, contests and educational presentation on health related topics. Mohammad Mashatt, senior Aramco official in the Western Region, praised the performance of the students and thanked all those who participated in the success of the recognition ceremony. “We are organizing such activities as our social responsibility and we want to give support to these kids and encourage them to overcome their problems, continue their education and achieve excellent academic results,” Mashatt said. Aramco organized the function in collaboration with several agencies such as The National Committee for Welfare of Inmates, (Tarahum) and Social Affairs in Makkah area. Aramco carries out such activities as part of its community outreach programs to encourage the kids who have family problems to pursue their education and achieve excellent results. The event was attended by Director of Social Affairs in Makkah Area Abdullah Al-Tawi; Executive Director of Tarahum Dr. Suhail Sawan; Director of Public Affairs in Jeddah Prisons Gen. Muhammad Qahtani; and Director of Health Awareness in Jeddah Health Affairs Dr. Monirah Balahmar. Dr. Balahmar explained the causes and effects of dengue fever and coronavirus. Since there are no vaccinations for diseases like dengue fever or coronavirus, she said it was always advisable to take preventive measures. “One can prevent the danger from coronavirus by adopting personal hygiene, specially washing hands before touching the eyes, mouth or nose because these are the main infection causes,” she said. She stressed that one should always try to improve the immunity system by taking healthy food, sleeping well and doing regular exercise. Mashatt distributed gifts to the kids and recognized government agencies that participated and attended the event. He thanked the volunteers from Prince Majed Society for their efforts in organizing the ceremony and for spreading the concept of voluntarism in society.
