Horses monument demolished

The under-construction horses monument is being demolished in Abu Areesh in Jazan recently. The governorate decided to go ahead with the demolition after receiving a letter from Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Abdullah Bin Muhammad Aal Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, objecting to the monument. The Grand Mufti's fatwa said it was impermissible to construct monuments for objects that have souls, like human beings or animals. Abdullah Al-Tufail, head of Abu Areesh Municipality, said he did not receive any directives to demolish the monument. The monument showed four horses and four swords rising from the earth. At the top is the Kingdom's logo of two swords and a palm tree. — Okaz photo
