A colorful parade of teams marked the opening of the 8th Ramadan Sports Festival at the King Abdul Aziz Medical City (KAMC) MC2 Multi-Purpose ground here. The night belonged to Shibboleths volleyball team, with a twin victory, the best muse in the person of Sarah Jane Soriano and the best in uniform. Jenni Kaasalainen and Johanna Hissa were the other winners, with the Best Muse in basketball while the Best in Uniform was awarded to Shohoku for basketball. Omar Walid, Operations Manager of Mobily, major sponsor of the tournament, congratulated the organizers and pledged Mobily's support. The tournament features indoor and outdoor events with team competition in basketball, volleyball, tennis and individual competition in darts, billiards, chess and table tennis. On the opening day, the Shohoku basketball team failed to check the scoring run of Alfie Roberto and lost the thriller, 53-60, to the Laboratory team. Shohoku failed miserably at the free throw line, converting only 5 from 14 attempts, while the Laboratory scored 15 from the free throw line. Zenon Ryessa scored 12 points for the loser and Alfie Roberto topscored with 21 points for Laboratory. Various raffle gifts and Nivea products were distributed to the crowd while Mobily sim-cards were given to the muse of the participating teams. KAMC Movers provided an entertaining dance number.
