Abdulrahman Al-Misbahi Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The telecom regulatory authority is currently monitoring more Web-based communication applications such as WhatsApp and Tango so as to ensure that they are fully complying with regulatory requirements and rules. Sultan Al-Malik, spokesman of Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), said that the commission would issue a formal statement about appropriate measures against these tools if they failed to comply with the requirements. CITC banned on Wednesday Viber, one such applications that allow subscribers to make free calls, send instant messages and share files over the Internet. CITC has not explained what regulatory requirements and rules it breached. The CITC earlier said it was acting to “protect society from any negative aspects that could harm the public interest.”
