I am writing with regard to the article "Income tax on foreigners" (June 4). Sure, go ahead and tax us. Remove the sponsorship system and give us the freedom to enter and leave the country. Treat everyone equal, give them all the same salaries and benefits, and remove the Saudization program and then we will welcome your decision to levy an income tax on us. Abdul Ahad, Online response II. Countries that levy income tax, tax their citizens as well and in significant amounts. Will this apply to Saudis and other Middle Eastern residents here in the Kingdom? Do away with the sponsorship system before putting the matter of tax on the table since in other countries expatriates with work visas have the freedom to change work and companies, travel and apply for citizenship. Knopkop, Online response III. Britain can tax the income of foreigners because it does not have exploitative sponsorship system. Foreigners who live and work in Britain are free to work where they want, can open and run businesses, are entitled to free government healthcare and can take unilateral legal action against even British citizens for racist, provocative or discriminatory remarks and/or treatment. If Saudi Arabia can guarantee all that, foreigners will be more than happy to pay income taxes. M.A., Online response
