JEDDAH — “Dorothy Boyer Fine Art Open House and Artist's Demonstration,” an art exhibition was held at artist Dorothy Boyer's residence here on Wednesday and Thursday. The two-day exhibition featured around 31 masterpieces of Boyer, including “Baroque Fountain, Alhambra.” “I have been painting in Saudi Arabia for many years now, and the main thing that I do is record the old Souq, old part of Jeddah. “I have had many paintings of the Souq that no longer exist, like Balad's old parts,” said Boyer, adding that it's important to paint and record parts of the old Jeddah — which are fast disappearing — so that children and their children can have a glimpse of the past. In Boyer's long successful artistic career, she has exhibited her work at Hanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial 2012, Parallax International Art Fair Chelsea London Feb. 2012, Solo Exhibition “Bridging Cultures” Al Alamia Gallery 2007, “Saudiaat” Al Alamia Gallery 2009, “Saudiaat” Dar Al Hekma 2006” Group ‘6X6,' “Perspectives,” “Reflections de France,” The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolors, The Mall Galleries London, The Federation of British Artists, The Royal Botanical Society, among others. Wafa Almihdar, an artist and a visitor at the exhibition, said: “I have known Dorothy for a long time; her paintings are absolutely marvelous, and I think we are very lucky that she has managed to record a lot of the old part of Jeddah that is very slowly being destroyed unfortunately. “Her painting of Islamic Spain are quite beautiful. “She has successfully held many exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and her work is truly appreciable.” Dorothy described in her paintings the wonder created by the effect of sunlight falling on the fragile old buildings in the old Jeddah souq, and the wonderful quality of the sunlight on coconut palms and other “still life.” She believes that it is a visual response to the light and how it changes the simplest objects into fascinating forms. Her paintings show a different look of a scene. She said: “I don't choose the scene to paint, light chooses it for me. I don't paint for the award or for any honor, I don't even think that I am good. “I just paint for me, painting is a passion making ordinary life more vivid.”
