RIYADH – Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour Bin Miteb has issued directives to all municipalities to follow up the implementation of recommendations of a committee formed to review locations selling cooking gas cylinders. A circular issued by the minister said the recommendations should be implemented with the objective of ensuring comfort and safety of citizens, as well as making the service easily accessible. The circular contained amendments to the municipal bylaw that regulates businesses selling and distributing cooking gas cylinders. One of the amendments stipulates that the location of such shops should be on a commercial street or in a place allocated for commercial use in planned city districts.
The amendment also stipulates that gas distribution centers should be located on an intersection between two streets, one of which a commercial street. The owners of existing shops that do not fulfill the new conditions should relocate their businesses within two years, the circular said. The amendments approved by the committee, including representatives from the ministries of interior and municipal and rural affairs and the National Gas Company, stipulate that no permits should be issued to open new shops without stating the changed conditions. — SG/SPA
