JEDDAH – Hundreds of undocumented Egyptian expatriates stormed their consulate here on Saturday demanding quick deportation to Cairo, said Consul General Adel El-Alfy. “The iron gate was broken as a large number of Egyptians tried to enter the consulate building,” he said. Consulate officials formed two teams: One to continue the routine work and the other to facilitate the paper work of those demanding exit. Saturday is always a peak day in the consulate as it is the first day of the week. Around 1,000 Egyptians visited the consulate Saturday morning. About 3,000 Egyptian workers are seeking to correct their residency status, according to Egypt Embassy sources. The embassy has also offered to help Egyptians find jobs. The workers who want to stay and find work in the Kingdom have been asked to apply to the labor bureau at the embassy in Riyadh.
