I am writing with regard to the article “Racism in our stadiums” (May 17). Football has a universal language of its own and is the vehicle for understanding other cultures promoting respect and tolerance. However, there exists a few who use football to promote racism. My experience of following football in the UK for many years is that football mirrors society and if the culture of a society is less tolerant, then this intolerance of the other spills into stadiums.
