JEDDAH — Makkah Emir Prince Khaled Al-Faisal has ordered a time frame to be fixed for the implementation of road works and streamlining of traffic movement at sites of major development projects in Jeddah. Addressing a meeting of high-ranking officials on Wednesday, the prince also underlined the need for implementing specific traffic plan at areas where works on such projects are under way. These included the area north of King Abdulaziz International Airport where several major projects are under various phases of implementation such as King Abdullah Sports City, Iskan Housing Project, a new Specialist Hospital and Prince Sultan Cultural Center. The Emir urged all the concerned agencies to expedite procedures to start the construction of road projects and streamlining traffic movement as early as possible. “A study should be carried out in order to prepare a comprehensive traffic plan to link all the major project sites with road networks to facilitate traffic movement in these areas,” he said. The meeting was attended by Jeddah Governor Prince Mishal Bin Majed, Mayor Hani Abu Ras;, representatives of the Transport Ministry and the traffic police, and other senior officials. Prince Khaled, who is also chairman of the executive committee for developing unplanned districts in the region, has ordered preparation of a plan containing steps to develop unplanned districts within a period of five years. Chairing a meeting of the committee at his office in Jeddah Wednesday, he stressed the need to improve the situation of these districts on an urgent basis in line with a time-bound plan.
