With regard to the report “This year sees the largest number of dengue cases” (May 8), I lived for several years in countries where dengue is a common disease. All of these countries conducted awareness programs to inform the public via the media (newspapers, radio, television, Internet) about the risks of dengue and how to prevent the formation of breeding places of mosquitos. Individuals and families can protect themselves and others by changing their habits, because mosquitoes can breed in litter, in used tires, in flower pots, in pools and in sewage spillages. There is a need for a public anti-dengue campaign in the Kingdom. Bartol, Online response
