Jeddah Mayoralty teams are working around-the-clock to counter dengue fever by spraying disinfectants in stagnant pools and swamps in Al-Jamea, Al-Rawabi and Ghulail districts. The pools had become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which can carry the disease, said Sarhan Al-Shamrani, acting head of Al-Jamea Municipality. He called on residents to support with the effort by calling 940, the number for Al-Jamea Operations, or by using other electronic services to report stagnant water, garbage, leftover building materials and other waste that affects public health. The focus now, in cooperation with the ministries of Health and Agriculture, is on attacking the high-risk areas before mosquitoes breed, Al-Shamrani said, adding that spraying operations are being carried out in all districts of Jeddah Governorate. Teams using insecticides work in the targeted areas, with high-pressure spraying, misting and in-home efforts to fight diseases affecting public health, he said. The work is part of a comprehensive, integrated plan to prevent diseases and maintain a high standard of environmental health, he added.
