JEDDAH — The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) signed a cooperation agreement on Saturday with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to provide $25 million in food aid to the most vulnerable families in Yemen.
The agreement was finalized during the Donors' Conference to Support Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Region, held in Jeddah.
It was signed by Dr. Ziyad Meemish, Senior Advisor for Medical and Humanitarian Research at KSrelief, and Carl Skau, WFP's Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief.
According to the terms of the agreement, 13,798 tons of essential food items will be distributed, alongside activities designed to bolster resilience through conditional financial assistance for participating families. This initiative aims to establish and rehabilitate resources that support the food chain over six cycles, including the rehabilitation of agricultural lands, construction of water barriers, and provision of equipment for fishermen.
This program is expected to benefit directly 546,364 individuals and indirectly assist an additional 57,313 people across several governorates, including Hudaydah, Dhale, Marib, Al-Bayda, Hadhramaut, Al-Mahrah, and Socotra.
The agreement underscores the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis and enhancing food security in the region.
Additionally, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah met with WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau on the sidelines of the conference to discuss the latest developments in KSrelief-WFP projects, which focus on providing essential food aid and improving living conditions in needy communities. Skau commended the Kingdom's significant humanitarian efforts through KSrelief and praised the well-organized conference and the productive discussions that took place.
