RIYADH — Saudi Arabia condemned on Sunday the attempt to assassinate Comoros President Azali Assoumani. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom's condemnation and denunciation in the strongest terms of the assassination attempt on Assoumani, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for the Union of the Comoros and its people in the face of all threats to its security and stability. The Ministry wished a speedy recovery for the president and wished Comoros and its people safety, stability and prosperity. Earlier, the Comoros government had revealed that President Assoumani was slightly injured in a knife attack on Friday. It said that the attacker, a former policeman in his 20s, had been detained and that motives of his attack were not yet known. The government source said that the president's life is not in danger.
