Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 05 - 2013

TORONTO — Felix Hernandez pitched eight shutout innings to win his third straight start, Kyle Seager and Jason Bay homered and the Seattle Mariners blanked the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 Friday night.
Seager had three hits as the Mariners won for the sixth time in eight games.
Hernandez (4-2) allowed five hits, walked none and struck out seven, improving to 3-0 with a 0.60 ERA in his past four starts. He's 95-24 in his career when he receives two or more runs of support.
Tom Wilhelmsen pitched the ninth for the Mariners, who had lost seven of their previous eight road games.
Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Romero (0-1) made his first start of the season, allowing three runs and three hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out four.
Tigers 4, Astros 3: Alex Avila hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to send Detroit to its second straight win and seventh victory in eight games.
After Houston closer Jose Veras (0-2) walked Don Kelly, Avila hit a 3-1 pitch to deep center field. It was Veras' second blown save in four opportunities.
Indians 7, Twins 6, 10 innings: Drew Stubbs' RBI double with one out in the 10th inning lifted Cleveland to its fifth straight victory.
Stubbs, who had four hits, drove a 1-0 pitch from Casey Fien off the wall in left-center to give Cleveland its first five-game winning streak since winning seven in a row from April 26-May 3, 2011.
Mike Aviles started the rally with a leadoff single off Fien (1-2).
Ezequiel Carrera moved Aviles to second with a sacrifice. Stubbs, who had two singles and two doubles, then drove in the game-winner. Chris Perez (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for Cleveland.
Athletics 2, Yankees 0: A.J. Griffin pitched six-hit ball into the eighth inning, Adam Rosales homered on CC Sabathia's first pitch, and Oakland opened its 10-game road trip with its fourth win in five games.
Coming off two losses in which he allowed 11 earned runs and 13 hits in 11 innings, Griffin struck out four, walked one and was removed for Sean Doolittle after Brett Gardner's bunt single to start the eighth. The Yankees had two runners on base only once, in the third inning, and Griffin (3-2) needed only nine pitches in the each of the fourth through sixth innings.
Rangers 7, Red Sox 0: Adrian Beltre had a three-run double among his four hits, Derek Holland pitched eight scoreless innings for his fifth consecutive victory over Boston.
The Rangers had a season-high 18 hits while Holland (2-2) had a season-high nine strikeouts and held Boston to six singles.
Red Sox starter Felix Doubront (3-1) allowed a career-worst 12 hits in 3 2-3 innings.
Holland is 5-1 with a 2.41 ERA in his six career starts against the Red Sox. The lone loss came as a rookie at Fenway Park in June 2009, his third career start.
After Holland threw 112 pitches, Derek Lowe worked a perfect ninth to wrap up the Rangers' fifth shutout this season.
Angels 4, Orioles 0: Jason Vargas pitched a three-hitter for his first victory with his new club, Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout homered and Los Angeles beat Baltimore.
Vargas (1-3) threw 107 pitches, striking out three and walking two while getting 15 groundball outs.
The White Sox-Kansas City Royals game was canceled due to rain and has been rescheduled for Monday afternoon.
Inter-League
Rays 7, Rockies 4, 10 innings: Evan Longoria hit a tiebreaking single in the 10th inning and Kelly Johnson later added a two-run homer in the interleague game, helping Tampa Bay improve to 3-4 on their road trip after having a game in Kansas City snowed out the day before. Desmond Jennings also had a two-run homer for the Rays.— Agencies
