GCC commits $100 million for urgent humanitarian aid in Gaza

MUSCAT — The Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council of the Gulf States (GCC) has announced immediate financial contributions of $100 million for a rapid and vital humanitarian aid operation in Gaza.
This commitment was made during the council's 43rd extraordinary meeting held on Tuesday in Muscat.
The Council reiterated its steadfast support for the joint initiative proposed by Saudi Arabia, the European Union, and the League of Arab States to revive the Middle East peace process, in collaboration with Egypt and Jordan.
Affirming its position on ending Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian Territories, the Council expressed strong support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
They advocated for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.
The meeting commenced with expressions of gratitude to Sultan Haitham Bin Tareq for the audience granted to foreign ministers and the GCC Secretary-General.
A central focus of the discussions was the escalating violence and illegal bombings in the Gaza Strip, prompting a unified stance from the ministers.
The Council urgently called for an immediate ceasefire, demanding an end to Israel's military operations in Gaza.
They stressed the imperative need to lift the illegal blockade, allowing unfettered access for humanitarian aid, relief supplies, and basic necessities.
Restoration of essential services such as electricity, water, and the delivery of fuel, food, and medicine to Gaza's inhabitants was underscored.
Additionally, the Council expressed unwavering support for the resilience of the Palestinian people in their homeland, cautioning against any attempts to displace or transfer them.
All involved parties were called upon to protect civilians, refrain from targeting them, and adhere strictly to international law and humanitarian principles.
The release of innocent hostages and detainees, especially vulnerable groups like women, children, the sick, and the elderly, was emphasized. The Council advocated for international protection for the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, the Council urged the global community to take necessary measures within the bounds of international law in response to Israel's illegal actions, including its policy of collective punishment against Gaza's civilian population.
The meeting concluded with a call to the United Nations Security Council, urging the implementation of past resolutions and the adoption of new ones to ensure Israel's compliance with international law.
The Council categorically rejected any plans or intentions by Israel to invade Gaza or displace Palestinian populations.
