JEDDAH — The women's football team of Al-Ittihad Club has officially announced the signing of Nigerian player Ashleigh Plumptre, a standout defender from English club Leicester City and a prominent figure in the recent Women's World Cup.
Al-Ittihad unveiled the deal through their women's sports account on the "X" platform, stating "Ashleigh Plumptre joins the Tigresses."
This signing marks a significant addition to Al-Ittihad's roster as they prepare to kick off their Women's Football League campaign on October 13. Plumptre brings a wealth of experience in English football and has represented the England youth national team before deciding to play for Nigeria.
Plumptre expressed her gratitude and excitement about joining Al-Ittihad's women's team on her social media account, saying: "I am grateful for joining Al-Ittihad's women's team and am excited to start this journey alongside amazing human beings."

The English Leicester City former star added: "Everything I've done throughout my career has always been about representing something bigger than myself," emphasizing, "Joining Al-Ittihad provides me with numerous opportunities both on and off the field to get to know football in Saudi Arabia."
Regarding her expectations for women's football in Saudi Arabia, she said: "I didn't come here with any expectations. I came here to be myself and benefit greatly from the environment as a football player and more importantly as a human being. I am excited to start this new phase and look forward to what we can achieve with Al-Ittihad's women's team."
At just 25 years old, Ashleigh Plumptre played a crucial role for her national team in the recent Women's World Cup, helping Nigeria advance to the Round of 16. She also boasts extensive experience with English club Leicester City.
