Published in The Saudi Gazette on 14 - 07 - 2023

The inaugural round of the Hill Climb Championship, part of the Saudi Toyota 2023 Championship, launched Friday morning at Prince Mishari Bin Saud Park in the Al-Baha region.
This engaging event is organized and overseen by the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, with Abdul Latif Jameel Company (ALJ) as the official partner and strategic sponsor Saudi Investment Bank (SAIB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and the Emirate of Al-Baha region.
Featuring 50 competitors, both male and female, from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Pakistan, and Spain, the championship is set to offer thrilling entertainment.
The competition unfolds on a challenging 3 km track, encompassing approximately 29 turns, where competitors commence from the bottom of the plateau and race uphill to a final point at an altitude of 340m.
The first day of the round saw the completion of participant registration and the technical check of the competing cars, along with a Reconnaissance round and Free Practice sessions.
As anticipation for the main race tomorrow builds up, attendees can look forward to a riveting contest.
The stakes have been elevated this year with larger prizes and financial incentives for the winners.
The champion will drive home a GR 86 MT car, in addition to a cash prize from a pool totaling SR50,000, which will be distributed among the first-place finishers in each category.
This event signifies the sixth edition of the Hill Climb races taking place in Al-Baha.
Originally an individual race, it has burgeoned in local recognition and currently serves as an official competition of the Saudi Toyota Championship, facilitated under the auspices of Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, alongside the supervision of the Ministry of Sports and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation.
The eligibility requirements for participation are based on the drivers' past racing background and the suitability of their sports cars for the event.
