Sharm El Sheikh Sunday hosted a panel discussion titled "The importance of climate action", which was held as part of the second day of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, organized on the sidelines of COP27. The session covered the importance of increasing mobility to decarbonize the region, the role of finance in enhancing climate action, and the necessity of joint regional and international cooperation to address the challenge of climate change. In reference to Saudi Arabia's concern for sustainability, energy security, and economic success, Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman said: "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia adopts a balanced approach to addressing climate change." He also discussed the significance of the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiatives from an environmental standpoint, highlighting the urgent need for such initiatives given the extent to which the region has been impacted by climate change. Prince Abdulaziz praised the hosting of COP27 to the second Middle East Green Forum and the Saudi Green Initiative Forum to highlight Saudi Arabia's commitments and what it can offer in the field of climate change. He noted that such initiatives provide a better opportunity for young people to achieve these aspirations and demonstrate their commitment to them and that the youth will especially benefit greatly from such endeavors. The minister also discussed how climate change is affecting the world economy. He stressed the importance of mobilizing resources, using inclusive strategies, taking into account everyone's needs, and holding nations accountable for their commitments to address this crisis in order to create a better and more sustainable way of life. — SPA
