MAKKAH — The Makkah office of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) is looking into a complaint filed by a Saudi woman against her husband accusing him of several charges, including forging her power of attorney and running businesses without her knowledge.
Speaking to Saudi Gazette, the woman alleged that her husband was a pervert who tried to present her to his friend. “I don't know what made my husband, who was a peace-loving man, to become barbaric and inhuman. I saw in him a totally different man after his release from jail.”
The man was earlier sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in forgery and cheating. However, he was released after serving a quarter of the jail term.
After sitting nearly two years at home, he was able to regain his job in the education department from which he was fired following his conviction. “When he came back from jail, his behavior to me and our children was inhuman and rude. He started blaming me for silly matters and even beat me.”
The woman said she sought refuge with her close relatives when he stopped spending money on her and the children.
The woman informed NSHR officials that her husband managed to obtain her social insurance credit card to withdraw her monthly allowance.
Two years ago, she was shocked to discover there was a commercial registration in her name when she went to a government office.
“When I came to know that there were at least three commercial shops in my name, I approached the notary public to know how this happened. It was revealed that the notary public gave him power of attorney after receiving an authorization letter, supposedly from myself, to enable him to secure commercial registration.”
She said the man admitted that he fabricated the authorization letter to obtain power of attorney and that was with the help of some of his friends.
The woman also said her husband's relationship with one of his friends was a factor in lodging her complaint. “He even tried to present me to him in return for realizing his selfish goals.
“My husband persuaded me to accept gifts offered by his friend in his presence. He also did not object but welcomed a suggestion by his friend to let him be alone with me.
“Then, I realized the glaring truth that my husband was a sexual pervert and his friend was misusing him.”
The woman told officials that she maintained her patience and suffered only for the sake of keeping the family together.“But now I was fed up and can't endure anymore. “I will not allow him to make me and our children scapegoats for the ulterior motives of him and his friend.”
