JEDDAH — Effat University has joined hands with television company OSN to mark Health Day and raise awareness about the importance of a healthy living. In cooperation with the media group, the university will host a lecture series on Sunday for nearly 1,000 students to educate them on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. The speakers include notable figures such as Lina Almaeena, founder of the Jeddah United Sport Team, who will shed light on the importance of physical activity and sports for women's health. Also on the speakers list is medical student Alaa' Salman, founder of “It's your choice,” an inspiring show on YouTube. In addition, an array of prominent professionals from the healthcare industry, including Dr. Mohamad Mohi Hamid Aldaeen from the “I Quit Smoking” initiative and Dr. Adnan Alzanbagi from King Abdullah Medical City, will anchor a series of thought-provoking talks on the medical and scientific aspects of fitness and diet in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Alongside the lecture session is an exhibition that brings together a number of women health and sport clubs and diet shops that will hammer home the message that adopting a healthy lifestyle is easy and accessible. Dr. Haifa Jamal Al-Lail, president of Effat University, said: “We focus on Health Day as a significant public health initiative, both globally and regionally. “This wellness program organized by Effat University Students' Government in collaboration with OSN will enlighten the youth on how to maintain their well being through a healthy lifestyle to counter the global epidemic of chronic non-communicable diseases, affecting not only individuals but entire populations,” said Jamal Al-Lail. Hamad Malik, chief marketing officer for OSN, added: “We are delighted to extend our support to Effat University for taking up this cause. “With women in the region recording increased incidence of diabetes and heart problems as a result of obesity, it is imperative to foster awareness on the need to promote a healthy lifestyle. “This initiative ties in perfectly with OSN's CSR campaign ‘Live More,' which encourages families to adopt a more active and balanced lifestyle. “OSN channels provide viewers with vivid insights into maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well as tips on women's overall well-being, serving both as a source of information and entertaining content.” In addition to supporting the lecture series, OSN will distribute specially developed health brochures to provide attendees invaluable insight on increasing physical activity and how simple day-to-day changes can make a big difference and lead to a balanced lifestyle. The OSN brochure, themed “Live More,” aims to encourage people to take the first step toward a healthier life.
