JEDDAH — The opening of the FEDBG's new competition was marked by the sustained might of Ekis-4 and Shawly Bowlers when they occupied the top two posts on 4-point gap at 38 and 34, respectively, with Zaldy Bacero boosting the Ernie Geslani-captained team and Arnel Bautista bolstering the Sally Sa?osa-coordinated squad at the end of session one of the Friday Morning Bowling League Invitational meet at the Bowling City here recently. With the tournament elimination formatted as point system on per game scratch, on scratch series and on handicapped series, Class O Bacero started shoring up Ekis with 230, 257 and 200 for the Bowler of the Week honor-winning total of 687. This handed Ekis set totals of 1,047, 1,173 and 1,127, summing up 3,347 scratch and 3,690 handicap, including prolific shares from Sol Cuenca 663, Ruben Gri?o 605, Alex Flora 586, Geslani 584 and Malou Gime 570. But Shawly Bowlers did not let Ekis stay too far as Bautista countered Bacero with 650 on games of 213, 252 and 185. That leadership of Bautista encouraged Edison Arena, Cloyd Ope?a, Nestor Sa?osa, Arnel Digap and Sally to support with 635, 619, 617, 594 and 551 to be close at sets of 1,093, 1,072 and 1,093 and series of 3,258 and 3,666. Third in production was the Silver Strike (Bowl to win) of Edward Botardo with 31 points, followed by Pin Rockers of Rudy Valenzuela at 27 points. Frank Afurong, Grace Funtilon and skipper Botardo pillared Silver Strike with 680, 663 and 650 with Richard Atonio, Obie Ycasas and Bobby Baraquel combining for 1,649. Silver Strike posted scratch games of 1,140, 1,025 and 1,026 for series of 3,191 and with handicap of 3,642. Funtilon won the Lady Bowler of the Week honor on her games of 220, 225 and 217. Botardo, Afurong and Ycasas had hi-games of 222, 224 and 210 respectively. Helped by blind score, Valenzuela, Archie Santos, Kaleem Salim, Minda Guevara and Nurissa Ramos posted 605, 621, 639, 580 and 646 for Pin Rockers scratch sets of 1,034, 1,100 and 1,026 for scratch series of 3,160 and 3,496 with handicap. Kaleem scored highest scratch game at 244 with Santos, Valenzuela and Ramos giving 214, 211 and 201 in that order. Teams that are gearing up for an explosion are: BCT Mongoose Emil Payongayong, Micah's Pride of Ester Santoc, Lane Aligner Squad of Leo Apacible and JTC Keglers of Jowet Carreon with respective purse of 20, 11, 10 and 9 points.
