RIYADH — The Border Patrol announced that they had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 161 kgs of hashish and 26.3 tons of stimulant khat in the Jazan, Asir and Najran regions. The Border Patrol said that they had arrested 26 people, who were involved in the smuggling operation —17 citizens, and 9 other violators of the border security regulations. Among the residents netted in the drug bust, out of the 9 residents 6 were Ethiopians nationals and 3 were Yemenis. Lt. Col. Misfer Bin Ghanem Al-Qarni, spokesman for the Border Guard, stated that the hashish and stimulant khat have been sent to the concerned authority for further action. He stressed that legal measures have been taken against the suspects.
